Radiofrequency Skin Tightening & Lifting
What is radiofrequency skin tightening?
Radiofrequency, or RF skin tightening, is a face and body treatment. It uses targeted and controlled radiofrequency energy directed at the skin via a specialised bipolar RF handpiece. The RF energy causes gentle heating within the underlying tissue until a prescribed effect is reached. Heating the tissue in this way causes initial tissue tightening as a reaction to the heat and stimulates a wound-healing bodily reaction.

The brain recognises the impact and deliberate trauma caused by applying heat energy to the deeper skin layers and signals various cells to begin a repair operation, stimulating collagen and elastin to rebuild and rejuvenate the skin’s framework, creating an improved scaffolding for the surface skin layers. Over time, as the new collagen and elastin are laid down, skin will become fresher, smoother, and tighter, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and improving skin elasticity in the lower and mid-face.
How does radiofrequency (RF) work?
Radiofrequency skin tightening uses controlled electromagnetic energy to heat the deeper skin layers, the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, without damaging the skin surface.

We use a bipolar RF system. The current flows between two closely spaced electrodes or poles housed in the tip of the handpiece to deliver precise, superficial heat to a specified depth. The goal is to raise the tissue temperature in these deeper layers to a therapeutic range, which tricks the body into a wound healing response, typically around 40 to 45°C. This causes immediate collagen contraction and controlled tissue coagulation. The thermal injury triggers fibroblast activity and new collagen and elastin production over the following weeks and months. The body naturally repairs and rejuvenates the skin tissue.
Our preferred radio frequency system: Dynamix ReModel
Radiofrequency treatments with the ReModel RF, part of the Dynamix system, help to lift and tighten your skin, soften fine lines, tighten the jawline, and lift the cheeks.

The system has a proven safety record and is certified as a medical device. Treatment is suitable for all skin types, causes minimal to no downtime, and creates both immediate and incremental, cumulative results through collagen stimulation. The result is firmer skin, improved laxity and gradual tissue remodelling.

Unlike some other radiofrequency skin tightening systems, the Dynamix ReModel RF treatment is a minimally invasive RF technology; it does not require a grounding pad or grounding electrode because it uses bipolar radiofrequency energy. Because the RF does not pass through the body from the handpiece to a grounding pad to complete a circuit, as in monopolar systems, the energy is localised and focused immediately beneath the handpiece, travelling between the two poles built into the tip of the handpiece and only affecting and heating the tissue in between its path.
The RF energy delivered generates micro-vibrations deep within the skin layers and gently heats and stimulates fibroblast cells responsible for collagen and elastin production.
RF skin tightening with the Dynamix ReModel radiofrequency system is ideal for improving overall facial laxity and skin slackness, tightening the aspect of the jawline, lower face, and mid-face cheek area, for full facial rejuvenation to tone and tighten and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Where appropriate, RF skin tightening can also be applied to areas of skin laxity on the body, including the abdomen and upper arms, for example.
Radiofrequency skin tightening with Dynamix ReModel is well tolerated, and most people do not find it painful. You can expect to feel a warming sensation, as the heat builds in your skin, which may feel quite relaxing. We will always ensure your comfort throughout your treatment and can adjust treatment settings depending on discomfort.
The radiofrequency system we use at Forever Facial Aesthetics in Ashtead, Surrey, is the Dynamix ReModel. It is a certified medical device that has been clinically tested to ensure that it meets various strict safety standards. Our systems are regularly serviced to maintain calibration and safe operating. Treatment is delivered in a controlled manner, using a specialist on-screen display, so our practitioner can be sure they are heating and targeting the tissue to the correct temperature for the correct amount of time, keeping you comfortable and safe.
Most people in good health are suitable for radiofrequency skin tightening, including all skin types.
However, there are some specific reasons why treatment might not be safe or suitable for some people, including medical conditions, particularly those related to impaired healing like scarring or blood coagulation, active bacterial, fungal, or viral infections in the area to be treated, including herpes simplex, and broken or damaged skin in the area; the latter will require healing and management before we can consider treatment.
Certain other skin conditions will also require a management protocol before we can consider radiofrequency treatment, including rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis. If you are currently on Roaccutane (Isotretinoin), its use will need to be discontinued for 12 months before you are suitable for treatment.
If you have any permanent implants within your body, including metal implants, or electrical implants, which are near the area being treated, you cannot be treated with radiofrequency energy. Because the Dynamix ReModel RF system is bipolar and does not require a grounding pad, there may be exceptions to this rule, which can be determined during your consultation.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing fertility treatment, you will also not be suitable for treatment.
Expect your skin to feel warm to the touch, with visible redness, possible mild swelling, and a tight sensation within the tissue for a short while after each treatment session. This is caused by the heat buildup during treatment and should fade within 12-24 hours.
Treatment with radiofrequency skin tightening is minimally invasive and carries little to no downtime for recovery. You can return to your normal activities immediately after each treatment session.
The number of treatment sessions for radiofrequency skin tightening will vary by patient, the area being treated, the targeted treatment goal, plus the strength of the protocols you can easily tolerate during treatment.
We usually recommend a minimum of 3 and up to 9 treatment sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart for the best results, depending on the starting point. A full skin analysis will be done before creating a treatment plan.
Results from radiofrequency skin tightening with the Dynamix ReModel are both immediate plus cumulative and incremental.
You will see visible improvements in skin tightness after your first treatment session, due to the immediate effect targeted heat delivery has on the deep layers of your skin. As the weeks go by and you have further treatment sessions, this will also result in collagen and elastin stimulation as the body is tricked into repairing itself from within. Essentially, we create targeted trauma that causes a wound-healing response. The body repairs the tissue, creating a new, better skin structure beneath the surface. This process will continue incrementally, and results will improve cumulatively for some time after your last treatment session. To maintain results, we also recommend regular top-ups that repeatedly stimulate this repair process as an anti-ageing solution.
Results vary by patient, including age and lifestyle considerations, but you can expect a course of radiofrequency treatments to deliver results that will last 1-2 years. We recommend a maintenance session every few months to keep your results at an optimal level for long-term and continued improvement.
