Neck lines (Platysmal bands)

Platysmal band is the medical name for neck lines or neck bands. They appear as vertical cords or lines on the neck and can be created when you open your mouth wide horizontally or have an emotional response, such as a recoil. With volume loss in the neck, the bands can become more noticeable and visible at rest due to ageing and ongoing muscle activity. This appearance is rather unkindly referred to as a 'turkey neck', and many women find it gives them an appearance of being much older.

During the clinical consultation, our medical practitioner will assess whether these lines are related to the platysma muscle, their impact on you, and discuss appropriate management options, which may also include regenerative injectable treatments like polynucleotides or bio-remodelling injections. In some cases, botulinum toxin may be considered to reduce the pull of this muscle to soften the appearance of the underlying bands.
